South Berkeley SHINES!

This is the biggest corner store in my neighborhood. It is kitty-corner from the Ashby BART station, so they seem to get a lot of business. They don’t sell alcohol (owned by a Muslim family), but they have a Middle Eastern deli. Yum.

I love that they painted this wall - otherwise it would be a pretty bleak expanse of brick bordering a pretty bleak stretch of sidewalk. You can see images of South Berkeley on the mural… so, it’s kind of like it depicts more than one scene from the neighborhood. This mural used to be different - it said something like, “Let your smile loose, you’re in South Berkeley!” I still think about that when I walk by.
